Salsa Discovery Session

Get your Salsa journey off on the right foot and build confidence fast.

Thinking about learning salsa but not sure where to begin?

Starting something new as an adult can feel surprisingly difficult.

Most people who come to me aren’t worried about salsa itself — they’re worried about feeling awkward, getting it wrong, or discovering they “just aren’t dancers.”

The good news?

You don’t need natural rhythm, previous experience or a special kind of confidence to start.

You simply need the right environment.

The Discovery Session is designed as your first step into private salsa tuition – a chance to experience my teaching style, understand how you learn, and discover whether Salsa Intoxica is the right fit for you.

What happens during your session?

Your Discovery Session takes place in my private Brentwood studio.

We’ll spend time exploring:

  • your goals and what brought you here
  • how salsa works
  • the basic rhythms and movements
  • how partner connection works
  • what the best next step might look like for you

There’s no crowded room.

No pressure to keep up.

No expectation that you already know what you’re doing.

Just a calm introduction designed around you.

Who is this for?

The Discovery Session is ideal if:

✓ you’ve always wanted to learn salsa but never started
✓ you’d like to learn privately before joining social classes
✓ you want a shared activity as a couple
✓ you prefer individual attention and a structured approach
✓ you’re considering the Sofa to Salsa programme but would like to meet me first

Who is this not designed for?

My teaching focuses on helping people learn salsa properly over time.

Because of this, the Discovery Session isn’t usually the best fit if you’re looking for:

✕ a one-off birthday or party experience
✕ a choreographed routine for an event
✕ a single novelty dance lesson
✕ a quick introduction before moving on

If you’re looking for an evening activity or salsa party experience, a local group class may be a better option.

Investment

Your 90-minute Discovery Session is £150.

It’s a complete standalone introduction to private salsa tuition.

During your session we’ll explore how you learn, identify what will help you progress most quickly, and begin building your foundations.

If you choose to continue with Sofa to Salsa, your programme will build directly from everything we discover together.

This includes your private session, personal guidance and a recommendation for your next steps.

Dance Discovery FAQ

How long is the lesson?

The session is 90 minutes in duration.

Where is the location of the Sofa to Salsa Discovery Session?

All private sessions are held in my private studio upstairs at Merrymeade House, Brentwood CM15 9FE

Do I need a partner?

No partner is required – you can book a Discovery Session just for yourself, or as a couple. Many people attend alone.

Is this a group lesson? How many people are in the room?

Discovery sessions are private – just you (and your partner if attending as a couple) and me. Group sessions are not available.

I have no rhythm and two left feet. Does it matter?

This is probably the most common thing I hear from new students.

Most people don’t struggle because they lack rhythm – they simply haven’t been taught in a way that helps them relax enough for their brain and body to work together.

Does it matter if I've never danced before?

No prior dance experience is necessary as I’ll be teaching the absolute basics.

Am I too old?

Many of my clients start later in life and this is welcomed. Normal mobility is assumed, however. If you have specific injuries or limitations to movement but wish to learn Salsa, please let me know in your initial enquiry as I have a lot of experience tailoring sessions to individual bodies.

Can I bring my kids?

My lessons and courses are adults only minimum age 18 years.

What do I need to wear?

Anything comfortable that you can move freely in. Jeans and T shirts or gym wear is fine. You don’t need special shoes for your first session, however most street shoes and trainers are not suitable for dancing in so bringing a pair of socks is recommended. Suede soled dance shoes are required for ongoing lessons but I can advise on this.

What happens after the discovery session?

If you’d like to continue, we’ll discuss the best next step. For many complete beginners this is the Sofa to Salsa programme, which builds on what we’ve discovered during your first session.
